Optimism Over Heavy-Load Corridor.

From Tyler Kula, Sarnia Observer.

A new federal funding pot could be just what Sarnia-Lambton needs to get a long-sought oversized load corridor rolling.

“This project seems like a very good fit,” said Marg Misek-Evans, the City of Sarnia’s chief administrator, noting the city is almost ready to submit its expression of interest for a $6 million slice of Ottawa’s $2 billion National Trade Corridor Fund.

Operated through Transport Canada, the recently refined fund – alluded to in the federal budget – covers up to 50 per cent of a project’s cost.

Successful bidders are expected to be notified later this fall, Misek-Evans said, and given the chance to submit more detailed proposals.

She’s optimistic, she said.

“I just don’t know what our competition is going to be."
