Lieutenant-Governor Of Newfoundland and Labrador Has Fond Memories of Sarnia.

Judy Foote carried home a treasured connection to Sarnia when she returned to Newfoundland after graduating from Lambton College.

Foote, a former politician and cabinet minister, has been named the next lieutenant-governor of Newfoundland and Labrador.

But back in the late 1970s, she was a Memorial University graduate interested in pursuing a career in journalism after working for a public affairs program with the CBC in Newfoundland.

Foote went looking for place she could take formal training and her electrician husband could also find work.

That ended up being Sarnia where they lived for two years while she completed a journalism and broadcasting program at Lambton College.

“I had two children when I moved to Sarnia and, when I finished my diploma program, I had three,” she said.

Her daughter Heidi was born in Sarnia while Foote was still in school.

Now 38, Foote’s youngest child works with a law firm in Newfoundland.

“I keep telling her, ‘your hometown is Sarnia,’” Foote said.

“Thing happen and we have very fond memories of Sarnia.”

Foote said they enjoyed the community and came to know others in Sarnia who had moved from Newfoundland.

“It’s a lovely, lovely place.”

International Students Enrich Our Community.

At Lambton College we are fortunate to welcome students to our campus from all across the globe. As President & CEO, I’m very thankful for the diversity, innovation and economic contribution our international students make to the College and community.

Their presence enhances the college and our intercultural understanding.

As a community, we have a responsibility to welcome these students, as well as other newcomers, to our region.

Over the last five years the number of international students who choose to study in Sarnia has nearly doubled, to 772 students. They come from all over the world, including India, Mexico, China, Brazil and Jamaica.

I would like the community to recognize the great benefits these newcomers bring.

Rick Mercer Will Be At Lambton College's 50th Anniversary.

Canadian funnyman and ranter extraordinaire Rick Mercer is helping Lambton College ring in its golden anniversary this spring.

The Rick Mercer Report star is the keynote speaker at what’s being called the President’s Gala – a formal evening May 13 of dancing and dining, complete with silent and live auctions, said Judy Morris, president and CEO of Lambton College.

Mercer, who endured firefighter training at the college in 2012 for a Report segment, is due for a 70-minute address in honour of the country’s sesquicentennial at the gala – a stop on his Canada: Coast to Coast to Coast tour.

Having Mercer attend is ‘very exciting,’ Morris said.

“The intention was to have a speaker with great presence at the President’s Gala, the 50th anniversary celebration,” she said. “We thought about Rick Mercer right away because he represents Canada and he represents so much of who we are as a college as well.”
