Sarnia-Lambton real estate sales have surpassed the $400-million mark for the second straight year.

Ten-year record highs have been posted during seven months of 2016 so far with volume sales now at more than $436-million.

Real Estate Board President Jane Baker says it’s remarkable because December sales haven’t even been recorded yet.

“We have already surpassed last year\s total of $411.7-million by $25-million,” says Baker. “That’s not even including the upcoming totals for December.”

148 properties worth $38.3-million sold last month, up 23% over November 2015.

From Paul Morden, Sarnia Observer.

Lambton College has received $6.3 million to help establish three centres for applied research.

The college in Sarnia held an event Wednesday to celebrate funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada to establish a Bio-Industrial Process Research Centre and the Lambton Energy Research Centre, and funding from the Canada Foundation for Innovation and the Ontario Research Fund for the college's Centre for Industrial Material Development.

That funding will be used to buy advanced equipment for applied research, allowing the centre to operate as a regional hub for industrial material development projects, while providing services to industry to improve, develop, test and bring to market new materials and products.

The Centre for Industrial Material Development and the Lambton Energy Research Centre were established this year by the college. The Bio-industrial Process Research Centre was established in 2015, and provides bio-industry partners with the ability to conduct applied research, as well as provides services to test and commercialize technologies and products.

“Lambton College has distinguished itself as a leader in applied research and development,” said Sandy Marshall, chairperson of the college's board of governors.

From Paul Morden and the Sarnia Observer.

There isn't a better place in the world than Sarnia-Lambton for Comet Biorefining's first commercial plant to extract cellulosic sugars from corn stalks and leaves, and wheat stalks, says the company's founder.

Andrew Richard, founder of the London-based company, spoke Tuesday during a demonstration day held by a new farm co-op established to supply corn stover and wheat straw to Comet's proposed new Sarnia manufacturing plant.

Farmland in Lambton and surrounding areas is “some of the most productive acres you'll find in North America,” Richard said.

And it's near Sarnia where so much of the infrastructure a new industry requires can be found, and where Comet already has industrial customers for its sugar, he said.

“It's a phenomenal place to start from.”

Comet Biorefining plans to have a manufacturing plant built and operating on the TransAlta site in Sarnia by 2018.

Richard said Comet is also likely to move its offices from London to Sarnia, “as we get ready to roll out this first facility.”
