A recent survey found contractors in the Sarnia and Windsor region generally feel hopeful about the coming construction season, but they're concerned U.S. President Donald Trump could have a negative impact on Ontario's economy.

The Ontario Construction Secretariat has released its annual Construction Confidence Survey, based on 500 interviews with contractors across the province.

This year, it ranked contractors’ perceptions of business conditions for the next 12 months at 60 out of 100, compared to 57 in 2016.

“That's a nice little jump, from one year to the next,” said Sean Strickland, CEO of the secretariat, a joint labour and management organization formed in 1993.

“I think that's reflective of contractors' improved confidence in 2017” and general optimism about Ontario's economy, he said.

A ranking above 50 indicates that the number of contractors who expect to do more business this year is greater than those who expect to do less.
