Roof trusses went up Monday on a new carriage
house being built at the Children's Animal Farm in Sarnia's Canatara Park.
Apprentices with Carpenters Union Local 1256
were at work in the park Monday morning as a crane lifted trusses in place on
the $100,000 project to replace the carriage house originally built in 1938,
and moved to the city park in the 1970s.
“We've had so much community support, and
volunteers,” Donna Kelso, president of the Seaway Kiwanis Club, said Monday
while watching the work.
“It's ahead of schedule and under budget.”
The project is a collaboration between the
Seaway Kiwanis Club, Local 1256 and Lambton College, where the apprentices
receive training.
“This is exciting watching this, the big
equipment at work,” Kelso said.
The Judith and Norman Alix Foundation
contributed $50,000 to the project, with the service club raising the rest of
the money at its weekly TV bingo.
