Sesquicentennial Project Celebrates Voices of Lambton.

From Tyler Kula, Sarnia Observer.

Historian Bob McCarthy is helping ring in the country’s sesquicentennial with a nod to Lambton County’s past.

The Sarnia man – a retired teacher and author of 11 books – is creating 150 three-to-five-minute-long videos about historical events in Lambton County and posting them, day by day starting Feb. 1, leading up to Canada’s 150th birthday July 1.

“Many different people and many different events contributed to the Canada we have today,” said McCarthy, 77, about his Voices of Lambton project.

“Mainly the intent was to tell stories to people about Lambton’s history – stories they may or may not have heard – and to celebrate the fact that we are all fortunate to be living in this country.”

Lambton County as an entity predates Confederation by 18 years, he said, noting his project is also to celebrate the county as a significant part of Canada.
