Sarnia
Arena is in line for a facelift and the city is looking for some community
support to make it happen.
The
1948-built arena recently was recently OK’d for a nearly $500,000 grant through
the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program.
That,
combined with equal parts parks and recreation capital-fund money, and
community fundraising, is being earmarked for $1.5 million in new lighting,
roofing repairs, a family accessible washroom, a new sound system, new heating,
an accessible concession area and other improvements inside and out, said Rob
Harwood, parks and recreation director with the City of Sarnia.
“We’re
really hoping we can get the support of the public and local corporations to
help us to get there,” he said.
